“It all started with my 247th bad cookie. There I was enjoying Moo Goo Gai Pan at my favorite Fort Wayne, Indiana Chinese restaurant. As usual, I eagerly cracked open my fortune cookie?and I?d like to tell you that the bolt of inspiration was in the fortune itself, but it wasn?t. My inspiration came from yet another dull, flavorless cookie. In that moment?when I wondered why fortune cookies had to be beige, bland and boring?I suddenly realized that they didn?t. And I decided to research the subject to see if I could revolutionize fortune cookies.
That was 1987, and over the next two years I invested a lot of time, energy and money into answering that question. I enlisted some help, and we painstakingly experimented and baked tens of thousands of bad looking, bad tasting batches of fortune cookies. It was a frustrating journey, but belief in my idea kept me going until the puzzle was solved.”
That is quite an interesting story indeed. I admit, I have felt the same way while trying to enjoy my treat after a delicious Chinese meal; especially when I’ve gotten a stale cookie. My fortune cookie arrived in a box, tied with a pretty bow just like this. My brother’s friends were over when it came and they were amazed at how huge it was. I think they were actually drooling at one point. Of course, nice sister that I am, I opened it up and let each of them try a bite.
We all dug in and just enjoyed the delicious crunchiness and taste. It’s amazing how much difference a little bit of chocolate can make! I already knew the taste was amazing, but these kids sure didn’t. I think they fell in love at first bite. One girl said she was going to make her mom buy her one. I wonder if she ever did?
