January is National Bath Safety Month. On average, 370 people, from infants all the way to the elderly, suffer from bath and shower-related injuries each year. And the leading accidental cause of death to children ages 4 and under, is drowning! I had no idea. I know bath safety is important, but I really was clueless on how uneducated we all seem to be on bath safety! January is a great month to refresh ourselves on safety of all kinds, while trying to better ourselves for the new year!
Here are a few safety tips to keep your little one safe in the bathroom.
- Keep your bathroom doors closed.
- Use a lid lock on all toilet seats.
- Never leave younger children around any container of water alone. This includes, toilets, tubs, buckets, wading pools, spas, and the like.
- Use faucet covers and skid guards in the bath tub to prevent burns and falls.
- Place a non-skid mat on the outside of the bathtub
- Gather all items you need for a child’s bath prior to running the water.
- Never leave a child unattended in the water. Not even for a few seconds. It only takes an inch of water for a child to drown in.
- Always check the water temperature before placing your child in the water
Munchkin has a great line of bath safety products. They offer almost everything you need to keep your own munchkin safe in the bathtub and the bathroom, and make it fun too!
I received the White Hot Super Safety Bath Ducky and the Lilypad Launcher Bath Toy.
The Safety Bath Ducky is an adorable, rubber ducky that makes your bath time easier and fun! We received what I like to think of as the “classic” design, but they have a lot of cute ones, such as a mermaid, a firefighter & a policeman! On the bottom of the duck, there is a patented White Hot safety disc that let’s you know in large white letters when the water is too hot for baby’s sensitive skin! When the water is a safe temperature, the dot goes back to blue. Pretty simple to use and makes bath safety fun!
The size is perfect for little adorable hands to cuddle, squeeze and I’ve heard it makes a fun little bath teether as well! (As long as there is no soap in that water!) The ducks are watertight, meaning they won’t sink, so no little ones trying to duck under water to retrieve it and makes them mildew resistant! There isn’t much more you can ask for in a Safety Bath Ducky!
The Lilypad Launcher is a really fun bath toy with an age recommendation of 3+ but my two year old, with my supervision, had loads of fun playing with them. The lily pad firmly adheres to the side of the bathtub with suction cups and is easily removable after the bath. With the special notch design, only the two colorful frogs will be launched from the pad! Unlike the safety duck, these frogs are not watertight as they are made to sink and squirt water. You’ll have to make sure to remove the frogs from water and let them air dry properly so as to not grow mold or mildew. I also think the frogs help teach cause and effect well, but also helps teach children how to reach into the water without bringing their face down into it.
Sonshine is just head over heels for the Lilypad Launcher. He will just sit there and launch and re-launch the frogs all throughout his bath time. He has no problem launching them, squirting them or finding them in a sea of bubbles. I can see this being a fun, safe bath toy he can use year in and year out!
Munchkin also offers a huge line of other safe bath time toys and items, such as the 6 Grippy Dots, which help little ones avoid falls and one of the dots features the White Hot technology! They also have a Bubbly Ducky Spout Guard, which can help the tub fill with bubbles and helps prevent burns and bumps!
Munchkin offers many more safe and fun bath features, I really could go on all day long! Check out their website to find products that work well with your family!
