The only Neti pot solution made with salt and real
I’ve heard about friends using Neti Pots. And I was always the person saying, “Oh, um, yes, that’s neat!” while secretly on the inside I was saying, “Ewww, that sounds so gross!” What can I say, I was an uniformed, uneducated non-saline irrigating person! With a little coaxing from our own Manda, I reached out to try something new, different and I’ll beit, strange to me. I’m happy to report, my way of thinking and my sinuses will never be the same, I’m a believer!
What exactly is a Neti Pot? They are small pots, with a long spout usually made from ceramic, glass or plastic. Warm water and salt are used on the inside. Then you put the spout into one nostril and tilt your head forward, allowing the other nostril to be irrigated, flushing out allergens, mucus, and helps combat dryness thus clearing out your nasal passages in a safe, non-medicated way. The medicine of nasal clearing has been used since ancient India and is still a widely used method there. The use of a neti pot is slowly becoming a more widely accepted use in Western society!
Arm & Hammer has brought out a line of Simply Saline products and I believe that their Neti Pot Kit is the star attraction! The pot is made of plastic in Arm & Hammer’s trademark orange color. It comes with a lid and is leak proof. The kit includes 50 Saline Nasal Irrigation packets containing natural sodium chloride and pure Arm & Hammer Baking Soda. This means, the packets are pH balanced, so no stinging, no burning, just soothing relief! (Side note: Never, ever, ever irrigate your nasal cavity with just plain water, it’ll sting and burn like crazy!)
Using the Neti Pot is easy. Simply fill the pot to the indicated fill-line with warm (not hot or boiling) water. Empty your desired amount of Simply Saline packets, one for regular strength, two for extra strength and place lid on. With a gently swishing motion, dissolve the packet in the water. Now, lean forward, over a sink with your head titled to one side. Do not lean backwards. Open your mouth, place the tip of the Neti Pot to the nostril that’s closest to the ceiling. Allow the solution to flow from one side to the other, avoid swallowing. Repeat for the other side and then gently blow your nose. You’ve now cleared out your nasal cavities! Breath deep! Doesn’t that feel wonderful? Bonus use: Have your toddler watch you. I mean, what’s more giggle-inducing that seeing water pour out of mommy’s nose? My son thought it was just about the funniest thing in the world!
While Neti Pots are not recommended for children under five, it is something you can use while pregnant as it’s drug-free and considered a natural remedy! I know that this is not your everyday sort of gift this holiday season, but what’s better than giving yourself the gift of good health? It’s hard to enjoy your kids, family and friends when all you wish is to be back in your warm, inviting bed all day!
