When our founder, YiShaun Yang, first came up with the idea of AdoraPet, she was working as a corporate attorney in a Manhattan law firm. Uninspired by corporate legal work, she wanted to create something that brought children joy and nurtured their curiosity and imagination.
In the process of filming a documentary for kids showing puppies playing, she came to realize that her passion is nourishing happy minds and developing new ways for kids to see and safely experience the world by creating children’s products that inspire kids to read, play, dream and discover.
AdoraPet books follow the many adventures of Pima & Pico (Puppy & Puppy’s) as they use their imagination, discover new things and learn valuable lessons that they share with the children reading their stories. In their dress up play outfits, they become astronauts, mermaids and firefighters. However, Pima & Pico also teach children about everyday adventures such as going to the Dentist, which would be incredibly helpful for a young ones first trip.
Judah and I were given the chance to review Pima & Pico Firefighter Adventure and Pima & Pico On the Farm. Incredibly perfect for my little man who is obsessed with fire engines currently and also (for odd reasons) corn-on-the-cob that he knows is grown on a farm. The books are small enough to fit in his hands and sturdy so he can turn the pages himself. All AdoraPet books are 4.5 x 4.5, easy to fit into a purse or a diaper bag when you’re on the go. Judah loves the little books, they’re easy for him to remember because they’re in a sing-song rhyme. What I enjoyed about the books is that they’re very informative. Here’s an example of the two we reviewed:
Brrrring! The firehouse alarm rings – there’s a fire! Firefighters Pima Puppy and Pico Puppy jump into the firetruck to help put out a fire. From sliding down the brass pole to climbing up the firetruck ladder, young readers will feel a firefighting thrill of heroic proportions.
In the Firefighter Adventure book Pima Puppy and Pico Puppy go help put out a fire at a house. You see the family outside of the house and they show how the Firefighters put the fire out, how there is a haze afterwards and also concludes with a sweet surprise ending. What’s great about this is because there is a realism to it while still being written for young readers so they can understand on their own level what these everyday heroes actually do.
Cock-a-doodle-doo! At the rooster’s crow, Farmers Pima Puppy and Pico Puppy explore where food comes from on the farm. From the orchard to the chicken coop, this farm adventure ends with a delicious homecooked breakfast.
In On The Farm, Pima Puppy and Pico Puppy rise early to milk the cows, collect eggs, plant seeds and take the fruit off the fruit trees. It takes the child through the day of a Farmer and where these basic foods come from and at the end they have a meal from the food they’ve worked for and collected. The simplicity of it shows children where their food comes from and how things like wheat make bread or breakfast toast.
These are wonderful and beautiful books, especially for beginning readers and preschoolers. You can receive them in both hardback and digital format, which is perfect if you generally use a tablet to read books when you are out with your child.
