Teachers are in many ways the partners of Parents, helping to assist them in the years of learning that take them into adulthood and onward into their lives as successful people who make good choices. I don’t assume it’s easy being a Teacher, I know through my eldest son the difficulties they face and the challenges that come along with making the choice to help blossom the seeds of our future. When I read Teaching Is… by Marjan Glavac, it gave me a new found respect for the people who set the lives of our children in front of their own for the majority of the year. I could think of only one thing when I got this book, the Teacher who saved my son last year. He was failing miserably because he kept forgetting things and his inability to be organized cost him his grades. My son is incredibly smart, just a little difficult in the thinking ahead department. This Teacher called me and we talked for hours, we sat down and we came up with a plan on how to help him and then she got together with all the teachers in his 7th grade. Through her, and the help of all the Teachers, we were able to come up with a way to keep things a little organized and they gave him a second chance to get the work in that he lost. He was able to pass into 8th grade only because of her belief in him.
I told my son to pick a Teacher he would like to give this book to and he said he would like to give it to his old English Teacher, the one who helped him so much last year. I wrapped the book up neatly and he wrote her a Thank You note and gave it to the office (since he was too nervous to hand it over). I also let her know that in the back of the book there is a place where Teachers can write in their Moments and possibly be accepted into the next book. I was very proud of my son and I am incredibly thankful to have Teachers out there like his and like Mr. Glavoc, who care about our children so deeply and see in them what we have known all along and are willing to help.
Pick up a copy of this book, take it to a Teacher who made a difference in your life or your child’s and be Thankful for the Moments that make them who they are.
