It all started in 1994 when successful New Jersey cardiac surgeon Dr. Peter Praeger and his medical partner, Dr. Eric Somberg, helped keep a family business alive. They bought Ungar’s Gefilte Fish ? a popular food company within the Jewish and Yiddish communities. The doctors set out on a simple mission ? to help people see nutritious food in a new light. They expanded the company to include all-natural and sensible products that would appeal to a wider consumer base. They kept the Ungar’s brand, which includes the original gefilte fish and other traditional Jewish foods, and developed Dr. Praeger’s Sensible Foods, which now includes dozens of all-natural, kosher frozen foods.
Dr. Praeger’s Sensible Foods believes in a healthy lifestyle for our children and exercise, which is so important both for ourselves and our families. Their products are all natural, low in cholesterol and sodium, have no preservatives or artificial flavorings, no trans fats and no or low saturated fats; they are also Kosher.
I have been slowly weeding out the unhealthy snacks in our home for healthy ones. Now that I’m more than aware of what’s in the food we eat daily and how it effects our bodies, I try to provide more vegetables, nuts and fruits as snacks than chips and cookies. However, I have a teenager and a toddler and both of them want what they want sometimes. We have one day a week in which we treat ourselves to ordering pizza and drinking soda, but the rest of the week I know it’d be nice to treat them without taking away from the purpose of teaching how to eat healthy; something that wasn’t in awareness when I was young and ruined my teeth forever. So when given the option to try Dr. Praeger’s Sensible Foods, which has snacks & appetizers for kids, I was pretty excited!
The first package we tried was the Pizza Bagels. Yes, they look just as good as that picture! I would have taken a picture if Cody hadn’t eaten them and Judah hadn’t been saying, “Peece o Pizza Peece o Pizza” the moment they were ready. There is no arguing with my sons, they love trying new foods and they love Pizza on a non-pizza day. However, they were very.. very good and I added these to my weekly grocery list! I can be incredibly thankful that Dr. Praeger’s Sensible Foods can be purchased in my area.
Just look at these cute little Broccoli Little’s! I didn’t want to eat them because they were so cute! Judah LOVES Broccoli, which is odd for a (almost) 3 year old, but we taught him well! More than anything else though, he loves the fact that these look like little stars and dinosaurs and little men… it was so cute! We would Roar them into his mouth. Ha! Oh yes, and they are very good and he liked them very, very much. I like them because they’re just as healthy as the broccoli I pick up at the Farmer’s Market, but they’re made in such a fun way! They also have these Little’s in Potato and Spinich; PLUS they have little Crusted Fishies that look like little fish! I am picking up some this weekend on my grocery shopping trip. I can’t help it, they’re so cute and tasty. There are Veggie Burgers, Veggie Pancakes and a slew of other amazing and wonderful products from Dr. Praegar’s. They also have Healthy Meal Ideas for Your Kids!
Like some of you, I hadn’t heard of them before and they’re in a shop that is just out of town so I hadn’t seen them. I am so lucky to have them in my area! Check out the Store Locator and see if they are in yours and if not, ask your grocer how you can help get Dr. Praegar’s in your local store! Also, you can order online so not to worry! You can still get the healthy cute food for your little ones!
They’re a great food to have, especially for easy meals for the kids and snacks for when they get home from school (like mine, who is always hungry). You’ll be incredibly surprised by how great they taste and your kids will love how fun they are.
