“How far would you go to restore the balance in your life that a tragedy had stolen from you?
Cliff Elliott thought he had endured the worst thing a parent could endure when his nine year old daughter was kidnapped, but he was wrong. The circumstances that led to her return were far worse than anything he could have imagined. Now Cliff, a man who rarely uttered a cross word, a man whose temperament and nature were as gentle as any man’s could be, had his life thrown irreparably out of balance.
Left with no other choice, Cliff set out not for revenge, but for justice; a justice that he hoped would restore the balance that was now absent from his life. The price to be paid to regain that balance though was much higher than he ever imagined it would be. In fact, Cliff almost paid the ultimate price almost.
So take a walk in another man’s shoes and try to imagine what you would do if you were faced with, ‘A Critical Loss of Balance’.”
I haven’t had much time at all for reading this summer with the move and all. I haven’t reviewed a book in months. When I got the email for A Critical Loss of Balance, I just knew that I had to find time for this one because it was right up my alley. I’ve never read about kidnapping before, but I get totally into mysteries and this sounded like an excellent read.
One thing that really excited me when I got the book is that it came with a bookmark! The bookmark had an image of the book and a synopsis on it. I think that was such a great idea and a nice little gift. I don’t always have a bookmark nearby, so I end up using a piece of paper or something. This time I didn’t have to because it was right in the book!
The moment that I started turning the pages of this book, I was sucked in. It was almost as if I were there. Mark pulled me in so fast with his writing. I just had to know what would happen next. In fact, I couldn’t rest until I knew the outcome.
With as little time as I have to read right you, would you believe that I finished this book in 3 nights of reading? I don’t mean that it took me 3 whole days either. I spent a few hours each night before bed and literally couldn’t put it down until my eyes were so tired they would start to close.
A Critical Loss of Balance is an excellent read and I could almost promise this story would pull you in. You’ll never know the depths that you would go to for someone that you love or for something that you think is right until you’re put smack dab in that situation. This story makes that reality feel so much closer and really got me thinking what I would do in that situation.
Mark Shaver has a unique writing style that I haven’t quite seen before. It reminds me of a few of my favorites, but different in its own way. I am definitely intrigued and will be picking up copies of his other two books, After the Fact and The Second Verdict.
