WhitePages, in Partnership with National Night Out, introduced Whitepages Neighbors on July 13th, 2011. Over 37 million people participated in the National Night Out last year and it is their hope to help neighbors get to know each other this year, to build upon community. WhitePages Neighbors helps to organize Neighborhood Watch programs, plan block parties, organize play dates and organize garage sales. It offers an aerial map of U.S. household contact information, including first and last name, mailing address, associated household members, and phone number to help neighbors more effectively get in touch.
Despite the fact that most American adults who have neighbors (93%) say it’s important for neighbors to look out for each other’s safety, a new survey conducted online in June 2011 by Harris Interactive on behalf of WhitePages found that more of them can identify most of their neighbors? cars (47%) than most of their neighbors? first names (41%) and that more of them (27%) know most of their neighbors? pets more than most of their neighbors? kids (24%).
WhitePages has partnered with the National Night Out (NNO) to make it easy to plan a Block Party without having to worry about tracking down neighbor’s names and contact information by sending personalized postcard invites via the U.S. Postal Service for free. I found this to be one of the most honorable things about the program and it really shown me that WhitePages sincerely cares about building our communities.
I really love the application. We had just moved into this house and are still pretty new to the community, although I had met a few neighbors with kids my son’s age. Our house is listed as the previous owners and having the ability to edit the information that everyone sees on WhitePages allowed me to update our listing with my name and number. Not only that, but we had tried to organize a neighborhood garage sale once but since the person in charge couldn’t put the flyers in the mail box, some people missed out. It also rained on the first day and if we had the ability to see our neighbors information we could have called the houses included and set a rain check date! This would have helped tremendously!! The next time we get together for a garage sale, this will be the service we use!
National Night Out is on August 2nd and already over 12,000 invites have gone out through WhitePages Neighbors. In order to have your invitations arrive on time they will need to be sent out no later than Saturday! Since the application is so easy, just a few clicks to invite everyone, it should be no problem to set up your personalized post cards and be included in this amazing event! There is no better place to begin helping to promote safe neighborhoods and safe communities than right in our own backyards.
