I was given the opportunity to watch a sneak peek of Field of Vision which premiers on Saturday, June 11th 8/7c on NBC as part of Walmart and P&G’s vision of helping families better connect with each other. Family Movie Night provides meaningful entertainment for the whole family without the worry of inappropriate advertising or content. This week, Family Movie Night airs Field of Vision, a story that revolves around something we are all growing intensely aware of currently, bullying.
Through mysterious footage captured on an old malfunctioning video camera, Sinclair High School’s star quarterback, Tyler McFarland, learns that some of his teammates have been bullying Cory Walker, a troubled new transfer student. Aware that sharing this information with the coach might get his friends kicked off the team and ultimately cost the school the state championship, Tyler must choose what’s more important: winning or doing what’s right.
As these events unfold, the camera also reveals more surprising footage to Tyler’s kid sister Lucy. She learns that Cory has a secret past, unknown even to him. Now Lucy must convince her mom (Faith Ford, Murphy Brown) and family that the camera’s revealing insight is not a product of her imagination as she enlists their help to find the answers Cory so desperately needs. It’s a compelling and intriguing story that shows both the challenges and rewards of doing the right thing even when it’s tough to do.
I really enjoyed the lessons that this movie teaches families and how it brought up discussion between my son and I afterward. Field of Vision teaches more than just the importance of doing the right thing, but also how bullying affects people, those that may already be having a difficult time in their lives. How friendship matters and sometimes you have to be willing to set aside your own concerns for the good of others. That there are times when the impossible is possible, you just have to take a leap of faith. And most importantly, I believe it shows that there is no better time to choose the right thing than the present and the choices you make today shapes who you will become in the future.
