There are times when you just gotta have some good old comfort food. When I think of comfort food, after my grandmother’s cooking of course, I think of the Queen of Butter, Paula Deen. Every time I see her on a morning talk show she is always laughing it up, adding pat after pat of butter and EVERYTHING looks SO GOOD! I was lucky enough to review the The Lady and Sons Savannah Country Cookbook by Paula Deen and also a set of Paula Deen Spices. I had a great time perusing through the recipes and finding some new things to try out with my family.

My husband likes to play it safe and eat familiar dishes while my toddler prefers things that seem to have more vegetables and beans than anything else. Fortunately for me, I found a terrific white bean chili recipe and figured that would be a perfect compromise. We had a delicious dinner with this chili topped with fresh avocado and cheddar cheese. This dish is a delightful ‘spring? chili and a perfect easygoing meal for any time. In addition to the delectible cookbook, I was also lucky enough to receive her set of spice grinders.
In this set is a Poultry Seasoning, Garlic Sea Salt, Sea Salt, Onion Sea Salt, Cinnamon Essence and Black Peppercorns. What cook wouldn?t love to have these at their disposal??? I love that each of these grinders are large, 1.85oz each to be exact. I used a couple of them in the chili and have used them quite a bit since then. The sea salts can go in just about anything and I can see using the cinnamon in my fall baking as well as to top my oatmeal. This is a terrific companion to cooking the dishes you will find in her cookbook!
