I’ve been driving for many years. In fact, I used to drive 3.5 hours between Wisconsin and Indiana quite frequently over the course of a couple years. I can tell you, I despise almost nothing as much as being stuck in traffic. It seemed no matter what time of day I left I’d get hit with Chicago’s rush hour – which if you’ve ever driven through, is pretty much all day long. It actually got to the point where I’d leave at 4am just to beat the traffic! No wonder it’s at the top of the list as #8 for most congested cities!
That was many, many years ago – before cell phones were something that almost everyone had. I know, sounds like prehistoric times to some, but I assure you, it was only 16-18 years ago! It was also before GPS systems were common to have in cars. So I really had no way to know what traffic would be like at any given time. But the good news is that times sure have changed in the last 20 years (I can’t believe I even said that!) and I’ll never have to worry about getting stuck in traffic again with my new TomTom GO 600. I won’t ever get lost again either – score!
With the TomTom GO 600, you have everything you need and the touch of your finger. It comes with the base to mount to your windshield, a power supply that plugs into your car’s adapter and the GPS unit. It was very easy to install – in fact too easy! I waited for a week for The Man to do it and he never did, so I went out there, figured it out myself and realized that I should have just done it the week before, myself. It was that easy! Now that I’ve got my trusty TomTom GPS, I no longer get stuck in 2 hours of traffic each week. That’s 2 extra hours to spend time with my family or get errands done. Here are some great features of the TomTom GO 600:
-
One of the world’s largest databases of real-time traffic intelligence with the most up-to-date, accurate information on traffic anytime, anywhere so you can truly get to your destination faster
-
Real-time instant traffic navigation that alerts you to the fastest route before you go as well as on the road
-
Covers 99.9% of the roads, which is more than any other traffic service available
-
TomTom MyDrive allows you to plan your route before you leave the house and send it to your device so you are ready to go once you get in the car
TomTom uses data from real-time traffic to let drivers know where there’s a road block or excessive traffic. It then suggests an alternate route to take so you’re not stuck in the congestion. It also has new MyDrive technology which allows you to plan a route wherever you are with your phone, then send to TomTom GO 500/600 when you’re ready to start your travel venture.
I’ve compiled a short list of 4 Road Trip Tips that I hope will help you on your next family road trip!
- Pack plenty of drinks and snacks for the kids. They always end up thirsty and hungry when you’re 50 miles from the next exit with nowhere to stop.
- Plan bathroom breaks into your drive time. I know, no one wants to stop to potty, but when you’ve got kids in the car, it’s easier to be prepared in this situation because you’ll never know when nature calls.
- Bring books or games. This will help keep the kids occupied and you’ll hear less “Are we there yet” shouts from the backseat. Another alternative is to play the fun games that your family played on your childhood road trips! We used to count cars of a certain color or look for license plates from specific states.
- Don’t leave home without your TomTom GPS! That way you won’t end up in traffic and you’ll reach your destination without getting lost or having to backtrack. Trust me, I’m notorious for backtracking and maybe getting just a tiny bit lost.
