?Fifty years ago, we started something very big,? says Brian Wilson. ?So now we?re celebrating together in a very big way.? ?It’s pretty miraculous that we can start out as a bunch of guys who didn?t know anything about fame or money, or anything like that,? says Mike Love. ?All we knew was we liked to sing and make harmonies together. So to have it become part of American musical culture is pretty amazing.? The amazing yet true saga of The Beach Boys is well chronicled, and by any standard it’s one of the greatest and most musical stories ever told. Now this singular West Coast story continues with a global celebration that is befitting of the remarkable and enduring legacy of these Rock & Roll Hall of Famers. To mark their 50th Anniversary, the founding members of The Beach Boys are reuniting for a major international tour and a brand new studio album that represents a whole new harmonic convergence from a group that has brought so much joy and harmony to this whole world.
I’ve grown up listening to The Beach Boys. They’re one of my father’s favorite bands of all times and with perfectly harmonized voices and relaxed, non-vulgar tunes, they were a welcomed band in our household when I was a child. I still find myself randomly singing random ditty while cleaning or playing with my son.
The Beach Boys 50: Doin’ It Again DVD is a 55 minute long, one DVD feature that chronicles their first album of new material is twenty years! The Beach Boys can boast 56 Top 100 hits, as well as 36 Top Ten Hits, and 4 Number Ones! To mark the very special occasion of the groups 50th anniversary, Mike Love, Brian Wilson, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston, and David Marks got back together in 2012 for an emotional reunion and recorded their first album of brand new material in over 20 years as well as heading on a worldwide tour, which will be wrapping up very shortly.
The DVD itself is not just an hour long concert, it has several different features:
- Exclusive 2012 Interviews
- Live performances from the 2012 World Tour
- Never-Before-Seen footage from the 1966 ‘Good Vibrations’ Recording Sessions
- Behind-The-Scenes Footage from the 2012 Recording Sessions for their new release ‘That’s Why God Made Radio’
- As well as tributes from the group to the founding members Carl and Dennis Wilson
My favorite part has to be the newly shown footage of the ‘Good Vibrations’ recordings. My only thought is, that if you’re looking for a full documentary or full concert for the 2012 tour, you might be disappointed. It’s a mixture of all of these things, along with studio footage. Go into watching it knowing it’s a sampling of all the things that make The Beach Boys, well, The Beach Boys. A great item to add to any fan’s collections.
