During our honeymoon/family vacation a couple of weeks ago, we hit up Great Wolf Lodge in Wisconsin Dells. We arrived Tuesday afternoon and spent the night, providing a full day of fun!
We arrived a little early because we had to check out of the cabin we spent the previous night in and I expected that we would just play in the waterpark until around 3 when we could check in. That was not the case though, because they had a room ready for us right away! I was very pleased because we were able to unload the car and get settled in before heading to the waterpark for some fun!

We stayed in the Family Fireplace Suite that had plenty of room for us all to sleep comfortably. From our patio, we could see the outside of the Howlin’ Tornado, what a site to see at nighttime!
Boys getting off Howling Tornado |
We spent quite a few hours playing in the waterpark. The kids’ favorite ride is Howlin’ Tornado so that was one of the first ones that we went on. Of course, I ended up going backwards! Let me tell you, it was quite intense! Needless to say, I let them go alone the next time around, shown above!

Another of their favorites is the 10,000 gallon bucket of water that pours water on bystanders below every so often. Anytime we’re near and that howl starts, they run to it! It is a lot of fun and I’ll admit to running over a few times too!
Between all 3 indoor waterparks and the outdoor waterpark, there is definitely a ton of fun to be had by all! We always have a good time and I honestly don’t think I could ever get “too old” to have fun at Great Wolf Lodge!
After all that fun, everyone was hungry so we went to our room and ordered pizza from The Loose Moose Bar & Grill located right inside Great Wolf Lodge. There was a special going on and we got a great deal on some delicious pizza! We were all actually quite impressed with how good the pizza was and will definitely be ordering again next time we stay!
Aside from all the waterpark adventures, Great Wolf Lodge offers an arcade full of fun games to play. We spent quite a lot of time and money in this arcade, but everyone had a blast!
Arcade Winnings |
The boys saved up the tickets that they got from games and us grownups donated ours to their cause. They ended up with a bag full of candy and a cool new Great Wolf Lodge football!
Before leaving on Wednesday, we hit up the waterparks again so the two little boys could play in the pools and wavepool. It was agreed by all that we definitely had a great time at Great Wolf Lodge!
I did have the chance to ask some questions about Great Wolf Lodge, which I’ll share below along with the answers!
Q1. Most people don’t realize that there is so much more to Wisconsin Dells than just summertime fun. Are there any big plans and/or events for Great Wolf Lodge during the Fall and Winter months that might entice potential visitors?
A1. Great Wolf Lodge has events for families year-round. Some of the upcoming events for the remainder of 2012 include Howl-O-Ween and Snowland. Both of these are signature events at the resort and something we bring back with a fresh face each year. We are in the process of finalizing the holiday plans with Snowland this week, and you can visit the Events page on the Website to learn more about Howl-O-Ween. This is a great page to visit before booking or arriving at the lodge to find out what is going on while you?re there.
Q2. Are there any new rides/attractions in the works for next summer?
A2. We are always looking at updates at the resort. The Great Wolf Lodge in Wisconsin Dells just completed over $2 million in renovations at the lodge. The updates included updates to the suites and amenities at the resort. Here is a blog post from Behind the Howl (our official blog) about the updates. In addition to the updates to the overall guest experience, the resort added Topper Powers to MagiQuest this spring.
Q3. How many gallons of water are used each day at Great Wolf Lodge?
A3. Since Great Wolf Lodge is a waterpark and a resort, it is hard to estimate how many gallons are used in the entire indoor waterpark resort, but I feel you are asking specifically about the waterpark. Most of the water in the park is reclaimed and filtered back through the park throughout the day. The Dells has approximately 576,000 gallons of water ? it’s all filtered and turned over 24 hours per day. Because they have a few different styles and many different pools with different filtration requirements it’s tough to say accurately how much water they reclaim.
I hope you enjoyed my family’s journey through Great Wolf Lodge. We’ve been there a total of 3 times and always have a great time! It’s definitely one of our favorite places to stay in the Dells!
