I have to start out by saying that I usually do not read books that do not include a plot line. As much as I enjoy staying fit and reading blogs and magazines about fitness, I can’t seem to wrap by brain around reading an entire book about it. I think it goes back to attention issues, I am very easily distracted and unless something draws me in, I am off in another direction pretty quickly. So, it was with dash of trepidation that I accepted the opportunity to review this book, Fit Moms for Life by Dustin Maher.
When the book arrived in my mail box, I pulled it out and began to peruse the pages. I was surprised to find myself drawn back to it throughout the day. There was just something about this book that held my interest. What Maher was saying really made sense to me. I am a runner. Running is my main fitness choice, but everything he said about traditional cardio made sense to me. I have battled injury and not really lost weight over the last several years. Granted at first I lost quite a bit, but I plateaued a long time ago. His diet plan even seems doable to this closet (or not so closet) foodie (Maher says that a cheat meal or two a week is actually GOOD for your diet…you know I can get behind a diet that lets me cheat and have the foods I love weekly!)
Here is a bit of what you will find in Fit Moms for Life:
Traditional Cardio Doesn?t Lose Fat
You Can?t Work Out to Compensate for Poor Eating
See Results 9 Times Faster With Burst Training
Learn ONE Exercise That Shrinks a Waistline WITHOUT diet changes
Burn Fat While You Sleep
A Healthy Environment Equals A More Fit Family
About the Author
Dustin Maher is a 28 year-old fitness professional who lives in Wisconsin. He was inspired to work with moms by his own mother who was a stay-at-home mom to Dustin and his three younger siblings. He saw how hard she worked to care for her family, but rarely took time for herself. She also lacked a support group of other moms to help work towards burning off the baby fat.
After graduating from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in Kinesiology Exercise Science, Maher knew what he wanted to do. He created a class called MamaTone, the aim of which was two fold: to help moms realize they could (and that it is important to) get their bodies back and to help them connect with other moms, so they could share their life experiences. From MamaTone developed Bootcamps and a line of workout DVDs.
As a mother, I really love seeing that this young guy (I get to call him young because he is younger than me..LOL…I won’t tell you by how much though…you get to keep guessing there) wanted to help moms after being inspired by his own! He must have one proud mama 🙂
