The concept behind PERPLEXUS was created by 3-D design teacher Michael McGinnis in the late 1970’s as a project for an art class. Michael envisioned turning his creation into a toy. He had no idea this vision would turn into a decades long odyssey to get the game to market.
Perplexus is one of PlaSmart’s hottest toys this Holiday Season. Having already received multiple awards, Perplexus is an engrossing 3D puzzle game that requires you to think and work with gravity to get through the maze. It is rightfully named! Many times I was completely perplexed by how in the world they were capable of creating such a challenging, yet fun, innovative puzzle.
Other than the Original Perplexus, there are two others. The Rookie and Epic. I don’t know what came over me when I chose Epic, I’m quite good at puzzles so I assumed if I reviewed the Rookie the game would end to quickly, but Epic’s anticipatory ending would last awhile. I was right… trying to beat Epic has been the incredible challenge of my family and everyone that has visited. It’s puzzling, that’s for sure!
Perplexus Epic actually arrived just before my son’s birthday party last month so all his friends decided to try it out as well. One in particular exclaimed after a very difficult time trying to figure out how to get the silver marble to stay on the track that it was the best game ever. Beating it is not the goal anymore, it’s how long can you stay on the track without falling off! It’s been incredibly amusing around here timing people to see how long they can hold out! With much laughter and a bit of craziness families of humor know all too well, Perplexus Epic has been a wonderful fun adventure for all of us. It also makes a great conversation starter if you leave it out in the living-area like we do! You can’t help but pick it up! It’s incredibly addicting.
If you are looking for something fun for your whole family, Perplexus is it. If you can’t stand to be beaten, try out The Rookie first, but if you are in for a challenge then Epic is your best bet. I’m sure the Original is in the middle somewhere between them in case you want something moderate. Either way this is a fantastic toy and one I really believe you are going to have a LOT of fun with!
