I have found that if I can get an educational app on my iPad, my kids will play it and not even realize they are “learning.” You have no idea how excited I was to test out Rock N Learn’s Phonics Easy Reader. One of my daughters is having trouble reading and this was an amazing App perfect for her.
The Rock N Learn Phonics Easy Reader comes with 3 stories. She has the choice to have the story read to her, with the words being highlighted as it is being read or to read the story herself. If she chooses to read it herself, she can push the play button after reading the page to “check” her reading. Also, if she is stuck on a word, she can touch the word and it is said for her. I absolutely LOVE this feature. This allows her to be able to read to herself and gives her the satisfaction of reading on her own. This is so important for her self confidence given her twin is a much better reader.
The stories are very entertaining and my daughter has really enjoyed them. The clarity of the pictures/graphics are so clear. The font and size of the word is very “read” friendly. Personally, I think when you have the story read to you, the person speaks too slowly. It must be an adult preference (or just me!) because all three of my kids thought the speed was okay. The person who “reads” the story, has a very clear and warm voice.
Rock N Learn not only has Apps, but they also has DVDs and CDs. The DVDs help students boost test-taking skills and score high on state-mandated standardized tests. Easy-to-use, these entertaining DVDs (and iPad apps) get results, as documented in case studies by several school districts. Rock ‘N Learn’s new Sight Words DVD is already getting great reviews on how it helps children learn to read, from preschool through remedial.
