I just adore Lilies. They are one of my favorite flowers because there are so many different varieties out there. Just off the top of my head, I can think of Tiger Lilies, Day Lilies, Lily Centerfold, Calla Lilies, Stargazer Lilies, Asiatic?Lilies and Lily of the Valley. That's not even touching the surface. There are so many gorgeous varieties of Lilies out there!
I have a lot of Lilies in my garden; in fact one entire garden is dedicated mostly to Lilies and Irises. I've found an abundance of Tiger Lilies in the yard throughout the 5 summers that we've been here. They keep popping up, mostly in the side garden. I moved a lot of them last year, into one of the back gardens and more popped up this year so my sister came and dug up a bunch of plants. I still have about a half dozen or so plants and I told my cousin she could grab one as well when she comes to get some other plants next week.
Tiger Lilies are pretty common around here and you'll often find them growing wild on the side of the road. They are absolutely breathtaking and I love how their petals sort of curl under themselves. Tiger Lilies multiply quickly and the plants seem to double or triple in size each year so there are plenty to go around if you like to share or trade your plants.
When we got married in 2012, I went sort of flower crazy. I had 5 months to plan a backyard wedding and figured that I'd fill the gardens with beautiful purple and white flowers to blend in with the whole purple and white wedding theme. I planted a lot of bulbs because it was cheaper than buying full size plants and these 5 Lily Centerfolds were planted in what I know call my Lily Garden. 4 of the plants have survived our brutal Wisconsin winters and they're in full bloom right now. They are absolutely gorgeous and the flowers are huge!
The petals have such detail, with the blasts of purple pouring out of the centers. It almost looks like they were painted - just gorgeous! I photographed these this morning, after the raid and I love that I captured some rain drops dripping off the petals.
