Say Goodbye to Disrespectful, Obnoxious and Abusive Behavior, and Regain Control of Your Child, Your Family & Your Life
“The Total Transformation Program is a step-by-step multimedia program designed to teach parents how to be more effective in James? no-nonsense, straight-talking style. The program addresses issues such as backtalk, lying, verbal and physical abuse of parents by kids, over-negotiating, arguing and power struggles.”
The Total Transformation Program (the Program) is a parent’s program to help manage the challenging behavior (some of experience first hand) in our children. The Program comes with 2 DVDs, 7 CDs and workbook. The Program is broken down into 7 lessons.
- Lesson 1 – Why Does My Child Act This Way? The real causes of obnoxious and abusive behavior.
- Lesson 2 – Why Won’t My Child Listen to Me? Ineffective parenting roles.
- Lesson 3 – Breaking Through. Parenting roles that lead to accountability.
- Lesson 4 – Transformation Tools. 27 Tools to change your child’s behavior now.
- Lesson 5 – Understanding Faulty Thinking. The block to problem solving.
- Lesson 6 – What to Do After Your Child Acts Out. The alternative response process.
- Lesson 7 – How to Stop It Before It Starts. The trigger management process.
Before starting each lesson you take a pre-test which takes 5 minutes, if that. After the pre-test, you listen to the audio lesson (CDs are labeled with each lesson). The CDs are approximately one hour long. After listening to the audio lesson, you are encouraged to complete the corresponding lesson in the workbook. At the end of each lesson in the workbook are action steps for you to work on. There is also a post-test you can take now that you have completed the lesson. Once you feel you have mastered the lesson’s action steps, you move on to the next lesson. An additional benefit to the program is the parental support line. They provide a toll-free number with the program that allows you to call for support. How awesome is that?
This review will focus on Lesson 5 through 7. To read the first review, which covers the Jump Start introduction, Lesson 1 and 2, click here. To read the second review, which covers Lesson 3 and 4, click here.
In Lesson 5, Understanding Faulty Thinking: The blocks to problem solving, you will learn how patterns of faulty thinking interfere with communication and problem solving. The lesson discusses 14 different types of faulty thinking.
In Lesson 6, What To Do After Your Child Acts Out: The alternative response process, you will learn about the 8 steps to problem-solving, confronting the inappropriate behavior and developing alternative behavior for the “next time.”
In Lesson 7, How To Stop It Before It Starts, The trigger management process, you will learn how to help your child manage “triggers” in order to change the unacceptable behavior that are associated with the “triggered” events or situations.
In Lesson 5, it discusses that faulty thinking is a product of distorted perception by both parents and teens. It most likely will always block problem solving and inhibit communication. I think understanding the most common types of faulty thinking is important in several situations.
Lesson 6 is one of those lessons that you can use in several situations, not just with your child(ren). The lesson outlines an 8 steps to be taken when when dealing with inappropriate behavior. The steps are investigate, confront, identify, challenge, declare, probe, choose and consequences/amends. The lesson also includes two cards that you can cut out and carry with you in order to remember the 8 steps. My favorite step has been “probe.” You ask the question, “What can you do differently next time you think somethings unfair?” I think this helps the child realize what the appropriate or acceptable behavior would be in the same situation and over time it will become part of their thinking and reacting.
As I said before, The Total Transformation Program seems to be helping in my situation. It is a lot of work, but anything worthwhile is! Now that The Total Transformation Program is complete, it is important to note that life will not go back to the way it use to be. We have all learned a lot from this program and realize that we need to continue to work hard on everything we learned and use the tools that were provided.
It is hard to believe that this is my last review on The Total Transformation Program. Thankfully there are tools to help me continue along this amazing journey. I have my workbook and CDs that I can refer back to or listen to a specific lesson. An additional benefit to the program is the parental support line. They provide a toll-free number with the program that allows you to call for support.
