Winter can be rather gloomy; thus many people want to get away and take a fun vacation to escape the winter blues and boredom. Of course, tropical and warm climates are top of the mind, but those aren’t always kind to the family budget. So let’s think outside the box for a moment and I’ll share how affordable winter vacations can actually happen!
First, you’ll have to get your mind off seeking a warm environment, and just embrace winter as it is, cold and all. Then, you will need to consider all the fun cold weather activities that your family can partake in.
Options for affordable winter vacations
There are many options for family fun in cold weather climates. You’ll get to enjoy the beauty of the fluffy white snow surrounding you, and enjoy some family fun in the process. Here are just a handful of ideas, and if you consider these, they might inspire you to come up with other great ideas of your own!
Rent a cozy lake cabin
Northern Wisconsin has a nice variety of cabins to rent where your family can enjoy budget friendly activities at the lake, such as ice skating and ice fishing. You could build a snowman, make snow angels and go sledding. Depending on where you stay, you may even be able to rent snowmobiles! When you have had enough of the snow and cold, head inside the cabin to cozy up by the fire with some hot cocoa ? a perfect time to bust out the board games!
Head to Keystone, Colorado
Colorado is on my family’s travel bucket list and I so badly want to plan this trip! I found this article on Alamo Rent A Car’s Scenic Route site and it shares some family-friendly ideas for fun in the area. You can take a scenic gondola ride, or bundle up for a ride in a horse drawn carriage. Other outdoor activities in Colorado include ice skating, snow tubing and Keystone even has the world’s largest snow fort, full of slides, mazes and tunnels!
Hit the snowmobile trails
Snowmobiling is a ton of fun, and I found a deep love for it about two winters ago. If you own a sled, great, but you can also rent them on location. A mini vacation relaxing at a cabin in the woods, riding the trails by day, can be a lot of fun!
Indoor waterparks
I get it. Some of you just can’t grasp the idea of a cold weather vacation, and I totally get that! An affordable getaway option to consider is a waterpark resort. Many waterparks offer great deals when you book online. Sometimes you can find room options that include a kitchen or kitchenette, so you’ll be able to save some cash on meals, too.
I hope these ideas inspire you to plan an affordable winter vacation with your family. If you have any other ideas, I?d love to hear them! Please share any thoughts or vacation inspiration in the comments below!
