I recently cleaned up a corner in my classroom for an art area for myself! Since I created this space I have been creating non-stop. Instead of one project a month I’m creating several a week! I’ve discovered I needed a work apron so that I can keep up with everything I need. Not sure if you know this, but jeans make the best aprons! Just find someone larger than yourself and cut up the legs! This time I wanted lots of pockets to keep up with my phone and everything else I use. Just think what a great idea this would be for Valentine’s Day!? This would be a great apron for cooking too.
Materials:
?Jeans
?Scissors
?Sewing Machine
?Fabric paint
?Binding, ribbon or drawstrings
Step 1:
I love the decorative seems on my husbands jeans, and wanted to include them in my design. Don’t forget to use your extra pocket to hold all your supplies.? I cut the jeans so that the back pocket would be the center of my apron.
Step 2:
Next cut the other pocket off leaving?a boarder,?and place it where you want it to go.? Then sew a zig zag stitch around the pocket twice.? I plan to keep my glasses and cell phone in this extra pocket, and my tools in the top.
Step 3:
I cut up the other leg of my husband’s jeans to use the seem for my ties.? Unfortunately I didn’t have enough to do the loop around the neck so I settled for a ribbon with stitches.
Step 4:
Finally you get to create your design and paint.? I used a cookie cutter to get a perfect heart and free-handed the letters.
The only thing I?wish I had done differently was to use embroidery floss to stitch around my design.?Maybe I’ll try that on my next apron.? For a more whimsical idea check out another apron I designed here.
