Brianna DuMont is the author of The Changed History Series which is a historical series for kids that is not only educational but fun to read too! The first book in the series is: Famous Phonies: Legends, Fakes and Frauds who Changed History and the newest release is: Fantastic Fugitives: Criminals, Cutthroats, and Rebels Who Changed History (While on the Run!). At first glance I did not think this was a book for kids but after reading it I quickly learned that it is indeed written for children ages 9-12 and that they would really enjoy these quick stories about some really famous people like Spartacus, Cleopatra and Nelson Mandela!
Think fugitives are always bad guys running from the law? Think again! The twelve fugitives in this book annoyed everyone, including queens, presidents and popes. But they didn’t let the peeved or the powerful stop them from breaking laws. They stood up for what they believed in, which could be as noble as freedom or as greedy as money. They founded countries, won wars, and even ended empires—all while on the run! Follow the twists and turns of these lawbreaking lives to learn how anyone can change the world. Even you! Just make sure you have your running shoes tied tight.Fantastic Fugitives: Criminals, Cutthroats, and Rebels Who Changed History While on the Run! is the second book in Brianna DuMont’s Changed History series. The series includes Famous Phonies: Legends, Fakes, and Frauds Who Changed History (2015) and a forthcoming book on thieves who changed history.Fantastically fast fugitives hiding inside: Spartacus * Cleopatra * Martin Luther * Koxinga * Mary, Queen of Scots * The Pilgrims * Harriet Tubman * Typhoid Mary * John Dillinger * Emmeline Pankhurst * Virginia Hall * Nelson Mandela
This is just a great book for middle grade readers and both boys and girls! It can sometimes be hard to find non-fiction books to engage children…especially when it comes to history. This book makes the stories fun and enjoyable. The stories are completely true but the book is not bogged down with minor details and instead dives right into the interesting parts and the ways they really changed the world. It is printed in nice big print for easy reading and includes great photographs, illustrations and maps as well. This is a MUST READ for kids with an interest in history. This book shows history is actually very interesting and more than just a timeline.
