I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for the Cigna Foundation, in partnership with Samahope. I received a promotional item to thank me for my participation.
Bringing a new life into the world is a miracle. It’s a joyful time and new babies are usually celebrated by entire families. Relatives and friends even’stop into the hospital to visit mom and baby. But sadly, that’s not how it is across the world. Not everyone has access to hospitals and clean birthing areas. These are things that many of us take for granted because we don’t know any different.
There are parts of this world where women die every two minutes due to pregnancy and birth complications. Most of these deaths are preventable with the right resources and care, which saddens me even more. I couldn’t imagine being pregnant and having to worry about whether or not I would make it, let alone my child. It’s such a shame in this day and age where we literally have access to so much at our fingertips. But unfortunately, there are barriers for some people based on their ethnicity, race, gender, age, geography or economics.
Together, we can do to change the outcome for some of these women though. Samahope is on a mission in India to train local nurses and fund doctors so that they are able to provide surgery to people who need it. This is made possible by the Cigna Foundation World of Difference grant and together, they’re focused on the 10,000 Lives Campaign with a goal of funding birth kits for 5,000 moms and 5,000 babies.
How can $5 help save a life?
Five dollars?is pocket change for some people, but you’d be surprised at what $5 can?actually do. $5 can help protect two lives through a safe birthing experience by?funding a birth kit that contains sterile tools and allows a Skilled Birth Attendant to help prevent life threatening complications for mother and child.
Samahope is halfway to their goal of saving 10,000 lives and a?donation of just $5 can play a huge part in saving a life. You can make a one time or monthly donation for any amount you choose and your donation can also be made in honor or in memory of someone you love.
When so little can do so much, I personally find it hard not to help, if I have the resources available. I know that my small $5 donation can save a life and to me, that’s $5 well spent. If you have a little extra, I encourage you to do the same and make a huge difference in the lives of 2 human beings – a mother and her child.
