There’s something about springtime and flowers that just make me want to be outside. Everything is starting to bloom and there’s so many pretty colors all over the place. We have some gorgeous flowers in our front yard and I thought it would be fun to add a little whimsy to the garden with some pinwheels. I got to work and created these adorable pinwheels that were the perfect touch to our flowerbeds.
To make you need:
- Double-sided scrapbook paper
- Paper straws
- Hole punch
- Paper fasteners
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Pen or pencil
I like using 12×12 paper so I get 4 even squares with no waste from each sheet.
1. Take your paper and fold it in half, then unfold and fold in half the other way. Cut along the fold lines to create 4 squares.
2. Take each square and fold it in half diagonally, unfold and repeat folding the other way.
3. The folds will create your cut lines. Measure about 3/4 of the way from the corner to the center and put a dot. For the 12×12 paper, I measured down 3 inches.
4. Cut along the fold lines until you hit your dot (there will now be 4 triangle shaped sections). In the very center of the paper poke a hole with your scissors. Do the same on the left (or right, just do the same for all) corner of each section you’ve cut.
5. Before you start folding the corners in, be sure to make a hole in your paper straw with the hole punch.
6. Take each corner with the hole in it and fold it towards the middle. As you fold it up, you’ll poke the paper fastener through each hole.
7. After going through all 4 corners, push the fastener through the center and into the hole in the paper straw. Fold the fastener around the straw.
8. Turn it over and you’re done!
These are really easy and fun to make. It took me about 5 minutes or less to make 4 of them and now my garden looks adorable and ready for spring with these gorgeous pinwheels.
You can use any size paper to do these, making small or even really large pinwheels. My son now has a few of his own pinwheels that he carries around. I sense a new decor obsession in our house thanks to these.
