My boys have been begging me for cell phones. Now, I know and understand – most of their friends have them. But I’m not loaded with money like many of their friends’ parents are. I just can’t afford another $60 per month for each of them. That’s $120 that just isn’t in the budget. So when I heard that TracFone now has Android-powered smartphones and you can purchase prepaid plans for as low as $7 per month, I was intrigued to say the least!
TracFone sent me a phone, airtime card and data card to see the benefits firsthand. The part I love the most is that you still get nationwide coverage on the most dependable networks, for much less than other plans – prepaid or recurring.
There are many phones to choose from at TracFone and they even have some really nice phones like the Galaxy Centura and ZTE Valet. You can talk, text and download/use apps with ease.
I received the Samsung Galaxy Centura and here are some of the features:
- Includes Triple Minutes for Life FREE!
- (3x Talk Time, 3x Texts & 3x Data)
- Android? 4.0
- 3.5″ Touch Screen
- 3G/Wi-Fi? Connectivity
- 3 MP Camera/Video Recorder
- Bluetooth? Wireless Technology
- 800MHz Processor
- An Airtime Card is required for activation of this phone.
- This phone is not compatible with SafeLink service
Setting up your phone is easy. The package contains everything you need including the phone, battery, charger and usage guide. Then you simply purchase and add an airtime card. You can also add minutes and data with a credit or debit card.
The wonderful thing about buying the Samsung Galaxy Centura through TracFone is that all airtime cards triple automatically. So if you purchase a 60 minute airtime card, it automatically triples to 180 minutes and those minutes are good for 90 days.
I love the fact that my son can have a phone, but I’m not obligated to a recurring monthly fee. I can decide how much airtime he uses and since airtime cards start at just $19.99 or $7 per month, he can easily pay for more airtime himself if he wants with his allowance or money he makes shoveling snow. I think it will help teach him about financial budgeting a bit too. If he doesn’t want to spend too much, then he’ll have to use the phone a little less. TracFone is definitely a great idea for your tween or teen’s first phone, or even for adults!
