I love decorating for the holidays. It’s festive and fun – and let’s face it, a beautifully decorated home just looks wonderful! I thought I had collected a pretty decent amount of Christmas Decor over the years until our family multiplied and we moved into a house triple the size of our old 2 bedroom flat. Then reality hit and I didn’t have nearly enough! I’ve spent the last 2 years trying to add to my Christmas decor, but with all these kids and other people to buy for, the budget just isn’t there. So I’ve added a little at a time. I was recently challenged to do a tables-cape with a budget of $25 at Dollar General. I browsed the Dollar General Holiday d?cor?aisles to check out what they had and came up with a great idea.
I found all of my supplies and went over my budget by $3, only because I found pine cones at Dollar General instead of trying to scavenge for real ones at a park! Here are the supplies needed to create this festive?tables-cape for the holidays.
- 4 Placemats – $4/2 pack
- 1 Table Runner – $6
- Bag of Cinnamon scented pine cones – $4
- 2 Silk Poinsettia Flowers – $1 each
- 4 Craft Picks with greenery, pinecones, ribbon and presents – $1 each
- 2 Green Plates – $1 each
- 2 Green Wine Goblets – $1 each
I had this beautiful square vase filled with river rocks and a candle left over from my wedding, so I thought the vase would be perfect to create a??centerpiece. Here is my step by step guide to create this lovely DIY Holiday Centerpiece.
- Wash and dry vase
- Arranged the pine cones so that it looks pretty from all sides.
- Bunch the 2 poinsettia flowers together and drop the stems down the middle, in between the pine cones.
- Arrange the craft picks in each of the corners, putting them in at a diagonal so they look fuller.
- Fluff the poinsettia flowers a bit to create the full look in the center
- Arrange the place mats and table runner.
- Lastly, I added the plates and wine goblets simply for your viewing pleasure – so you could see the full effect with the table {half} set!
Let me just tell you, this was so easy to make. You’d really be surprised. I think I spent all of 5 minutes on the centerpiece, then the rest was nothing. 15 minutes total and my table was beautifully decorated for Christmas! The photos took me longer than setting up the table did!
My husband came home and was completely wowed. He absolutely loved it and said I better start decorating the rest of the house now! I’ve never done much decorating with poinsettias before, but now that I have, I plan to do more. They really are beautiful and make everything so festive. My dad adored poinsettias, so every time I walk through my dining room, I’m reminded of him and it warms my heart. Remember that decorating for the holidays doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. Hit up your local Dollar General store and I promise, you’ll be surprised and pleased at what you can find on a very tight budget!
