Last Wednesday, I posted a sneak peek at what was going to be our Epic Campout Party! Now that the party has come and gone, (and the house has been picked up!) I’m ready to share our whole epic experience so that you can plan your own Campout Party with either Digital HD (available now!) or your own Blu-Ray copy that arrives on the scene August 20th!
Now, let me preface that our party was full of a lot of “littles” and we were having a muggy, wet afternoon, so I brought our Campout inside!
Our party was an early afternoon sort of shindig, just due to the kid’s ages. Had the munchkins been a little older, we would have set up our tent in the backyard and let the kids sleepover! To bring Moonhaven to us, I started out a few days prior to our party by hitting up our favorite home improvement store for paint chips. I grabbed a few of the free paint chips in green, reddish-brown, and green-yellow colors. Armed with my trusty scissors, I cut out roughly 100 leaf shapes and then cut down the sides at an angle to give them more of three dimensional look. Around fifty of the leaves are in the picture above, growing up our side wall in the living room.
Next, I cut out 24 clouds. You want them to be the same shape, so use your first one as a stencil. Now, from the bottom of twelve of them, cut up from the bottom half way thru. Now, with the other twelve, cut from the top in the middle, half way thru. Now, slide them together and ta-da, you have a dozen puffy white clouds to hang from the ceiling with fishing wire! Above the clouds we hung stars in shades of blue and purple as though the sun was setting.
When the kids arrived, they walked through a curtain of leaves, also known as three pieces of plastic tablecloths that were shredded and then braided part way at the top. Once decorated, I had Sonshine plant his basil seeds so he could show it to his friends, who I knew would be planting theirs at home. Small hands and an indoor party was no place to do this, but the kids loved looking at the plant cup. It arrived with a compacted dry piece of dirt that just baffled Sonshine as it grew with water. The kids couldn’t believe that their cups would turn out like Sonshine’s! As you can see in the pictures, that we have sprouts in over a little week.
Next came the food. I was so busy making the food the morning of the party and then watching the kids enjoy it, that I forgot to take up close pictures of a few of the foods. But here’s what we had:
- Blueberry and Cranberry-Orange Muffins
- Caterpillars Bites (Green grapes on a stick)
- Flower Pots (Mini pancakes with Banana Greek Yogurt, Banana slices & Strawberry pieces)
- Rocks (Chicken Popcorn)
- S’mores on a stick (Dip marshmallows in chocolate then roll in graham cracker crumbs)
With full tummies, I passed out these amazing swag bags provided by Fox Home Entertainment Insiders. If you look back at my sneak peek post, you can print off the fun activity sheets we talked about. Due to the rain, we couldn’t go outside, but we talked about bugs and scavenger hunts and I hope we can get together with our friends soon to use them! Once we had filled our little tummies, looted around our gift bags, and stuck the Leafman hats I made onto our heads, the kiddies gathered around our laptop like it was a campfire and watched our copy of Epic thanks to the two week early digital download! Attention spans wavered, but, we made it through the end of the movie without any meltdowns. My little guy really loved the character of Bufo but it was ultimately unanimous that you can’t go wrong with Mub & Grub! As a parent, I enjoyed the ultimate story of M.K. and her father. This movie is just perfect for you to watch with your whole family, regardless of age!
